Extreme Unction

Shhsppt, shhsppt!

Regular  visitors to the B & P salon will know that I don't really like perfume, my feral little snout is too overactive to be bombarded with artificial scents, I like to keep my nostrilium clear for sniffing out bourbon, cake and trouble.
But at last, I have  found something which allows me  to participate in the indulgent  rite of self anointing. Sulking and preening in my boudoir with Nivea's body lotion has been a rather Puritanical experience until now.
Diptyque's Voile Satin body oil contains the merest whiff of jasmine and saffron in a unctuous slippery base which means I can at last  play High Priestess in the bedroom.
Fear not, I only sacrifice gingerbread men on my altar; death by nibbling.

oh look I'm the genie in the bottle.

Anything new in your beauty arsenal?

  2. ooh and aah...
    this does sound interesting.

I love subtle scents and skin pampering is right up there on the top of my list.

I have started using eye cream...as my eyes are reactive and sensitive but I found a great one by Avene whose products are currently in my beauty arsenal.

  4. The Voile Satin sounds very interesting! I actually do love a good scent but I'm always afraid of breaking out in skin rashes, something which has happened on several occasions. Tata Harper eye cream is at the top of my beauty arsenal right now. I had always been doubtful of the efficacy of any eye cream, but this one really does work and I'm so grateful for it. Without it, I would look as exhausted as I feel!

And thank the lucky stars for attending French school, where talk of the extreme unction was about as commonplace as the national anthem at the Super Bowl.

  6. Well I know you don't like perfume, but I recently got a bottle of Ellie Saab whilst on holiday in NZ (love that duty free) and I cannot stop wearing it. Normally a No 5 every day kinda gal, but this is something super special...

  7. New? Oh no. I've been wearing the same perfume for the last ten years. It's proved me well over the years. Although I am loving the thought of nibbling gingerbread men to death. Yum!

  15. Am jealous of Lady Jicky as that Malle perfume sounds like my ideal (and with such a moniker, she obviously has fine taste in scents). New in my arsenal? A friends gave me the whole range of Bobbi Brown's brightening skin line and I have to say that I am actually seeing results for once! Also recent but looong overdue: benefit's instant brow pencil--poof! I have eyes again. One last: Davines oil for my crackleized winter hair.

  16. I've just bought some Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser which prompted me to wonder, how have I managed without this. The other beauty item which I find indispensable is Liz Earle cleanse and polish it makes my cheeks feel like I've been for a lovely long walk.

  18. Looks great, sounds lovely - will have to try it out, the smell sounds amazing!! xx Hope your having a great week :)

  19. Husby hates scented things and I'll admit I don't like artificial scents either. It's awful when you're trapped at the stadium or restaurant next to someone much too heavily perfumed. This sounds lovely, might have to try it! My new beauty arsenal is Blinc mascara. A new concept, and it doesn't clump.

  20. I'm using some products from a canadian company, Daniel Thompson, which are amazing and makes my skin (which is dry with mild roscacea) feel amazing!

Little perfume for me for same reason - most simply stuff me up, so I am intrigued!

I have been mown to put a ab or real geranium behind my ears...I think I am becoming Edie Beale....

  21. I hope your initiation into the mystery-cult of scents is/was successful. That flacon is at least very well designed. I quite like scents but talking about my preferences I have also noticed that other men have very different predilections and perceptions of it. Also: the Asians (girls) often seem to be put off by too intense and/or strong ones like tobacco, rum, leather on a man. That reminded me that perfume at its core was/is still a European thing.

    ReplyDelete
  22. That bottle is so pretty! I really like the shape!
Although I've had it for quite a while I never apprecciated it until now: Ligne St. Barth's Avocado Oil Skin & Hair Care. I started to curl my hair with a conical wand two weeks ago and it helps to maintain healthy, hydrated hair. It has just a faint smell and is also great on the body!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I practically collect Diptyque, and my fave is the Eau Duelle little solid perfume compact, the scent is subtle and amazing. From other depts, I am currently loving the Chanel No 5 bath oil that santa brought for me, along with Bobbi Brown tinted moisturiser and gel eyeliner, and Trish McEvoy 'tubes' mascara, which doesn't give me raccoon smudges like all others. PS: Aquaphor forevs! Is it sold in the UK now??

    ReplyDelete

    1. Cosmic: I haven't sniffed that one, but I love the brand, everything they make is just so beautiful.
I think Aquaphor might be out here now, I must check, I've been paying well over the odds by flying it in from the US!

  24. an elegant lavender shower gel (occitane). Sometimes I fancy a shower at night. Lavender is the perfect companion for the late shower.
Oh, and the most-needed make-up-removing-oil. Oil-bases used to be common not so long ago. Now all drugstore brands switched to milk instead of oil. Which leaves me with Lancome's huile d'eclat. I like the feeling of oil removing makeup and skinflakes. Very, very thorough. And a gentle Shiseido soap afterwards. And a toner. and and and ..... :-D

  30. My husband loves L'Occitan After Shave Balm--it smells wondeful so I keep his supply well stocked. Leslie at Hostess has gotten me on to Sea Buckthorn. I have a face lotion from a company called Sibu and the oil from The Original Sea Buckthorn Company. It has been fab for my skin!! It has also helped my rosacea--my mother has noticed its effects after just two weeks. Miracle cure??

  31. Dannie: Oh so your hubs and LBF both use it, I must sniff this out too. I love how many of us have a touch of roseacea!

However I have to confess that since slathering my face in PH Advantage's Lip Advantage (a Christmas present from a very high maintenance friend) I have had comments on how fresh faced my skin is looking so may be there is something in it afterall.

  33. Hello Tabitha:
How exotic all of this looks and, no doubt, smells in that wonderful Rousseau inspired boudoir of yours. With just the merest hints of Jasmine and Saffron, we reckon that we could share the Voile Satin and both revel in the unctionness of it all!!

    Nivea cold cream...swear by it!!

  35. I haven't got anything new, I'm afraid, because I tend to buy new stuff before I've finished the old stuff and so I have a cupboard of old stuff that really MUST be used up.

However, I was standing in teh post office the other day and was actually moved to ask the lady in front of me what perfume she was wearing - Sisley Eau Du Soir - probably too strong for you, but sort of dark, pomegranatey, expensiveness. I have to have it. I shall feel invincible when I wear it, like Darth Vader in sling-backs :-)

Two oldies that I will add to the list because they are so amazing: I have long been on the "no water on the face" kick and use Bioderma Crealine H2O to take off makeup at night at spritz my face with organic rosewater every morning--wakes me up better than coffee!

I am v.boring in the products department. Years of Clinique Turnaround Cream and no significant wrinkles in my 50's. I hate perfume - on the whole - it is sooo overpowering and gives me a blinding headache - i dont know why people think it makes them attractive - and you can spot the person who will knock you out at a thousand paces - yeeuch - i very very very occasionally smell someone with a very light hint of something natural and interesting but on the whole - not. In fact when it comes to perfume or beauty on the whole - i am a cheap date - who would have guessed - on the whole i am not but then you may have guessed that!! My tip - faith in nature - shampoo and conditioner amazing - hair sooo soft but not floppy, i am about to try some neem oil on my hair - and guess what - cheapo could not believe the price - have a good one xx

  53. I don't wear perfume. I simply cannot smell it. It smells like chemicals.

I hate it when close friends and family give me perfume as gifts, it makes me think they don't know me at all.

My husband does request that I wear Ralph Lauren - RALPH perfume on special occasions as he loves it. Sometimes I wear Chanel Coco but only if I am killing time before I leave the house.

My signature scent is coconut. I always have coconut oil or moisturiser on, without fail.

  54. Amazing to read how many other people have problems with strong perfumes.

I wonder if age has something to do with it? Maybe Louise @ cosmetic bee could help me with this one?

Actually the new thing in my bathroom is an old thing...bicarbonate of soda. Brilliant for cleaning teeth, hair and anything else. I've become so sensitive to synthetic perfumes and the like that I have trouble finding products simple enough for my skin and hair. Olive oil is great of course, but I really need to find something for my hands quickly.
